The State of the Union project explores patterns of national identity, and political and constitutional attitudes across all four nations of the United Kingdom.
The project combines four ongoing survey instruments that make use of representative samples from across the UK:
- Future of England Survey (2011-20)
- Future of Scotland Survey (2014-20)
- Future of Wales Survey (2014-20)
- Future of Northern Ireland Survey (2018-20)
These surveys have spanned a number of significant constitutional moments in UK politics, from the Scottish Independence referendum in 2014, to the 2016 EU Referendum and the UK’s subsequent exit from the European Union. These events, set against the backdrop of devolution in three of the four home nations, allow for an examination of how developments at the regional and national level shape citizens views towards the future of the union.
